Austbrokers Holdings first established the Austbrokers Network in 1985 to give individual insurance brokers the ability to access the benefits of a larger group while maintaining their independence.

Austbrokers ABS is one of the largest brokers of this national network.

Austbrokers Holdings is the third largest broking network in Australia and is a member of the National Insurance Brokers Association (NIBA) and a joint venture partner of the Austbrokers IBNA Member Services Group (AIMS).

In January 2006, three well established Sydney brokerages – Adept, AEI and Wilburtins McDonald merged together to form a new company within the Austbrokers Network - Austbrokers Sydney Pty Ltd. This was followed by the aquisition of FWR in 2008.

In late 2009, Austbrokers Sydney Pty Ltd changed its trading name to Austbrokers ABS.
